MARINE COMPASSES INTRUCTIONS

Dear client,

Thank you for choosing this AUTONAUTIC INSTRUMENTAL compass. We are sure you will be happy with your choice as it was designed to meet your requirements.

This compass is the result of our technical experience and the care taken during its manufacture.

ALL AUTONAUTIC COMPASSES COMPLY WITH DIRECTIVE MED 96/98 EC REGARDING MARINE EQUIPMENT AND BEAR THE DECLARATION OF CONFORMITY.

INSTALLATION

You must install your compass at a suitable distance from the influence of any magnetic field: main engine, windscreen wiper motor, fire extinguisher, other compasses, speakers, etc. Any magnetic disturbance may affect the compass.

BRACKET-MOUNT COMPASSES: C 12 - C 8 ( 0025-0026) CHH - C1

The bracket can be fastened to a bulkhead, ceiling, deck or side. The compass lubber line must pass through the imaginary midship line of the vessel.

On range models C 12 - C 8 (mod. 0025-0026), slide the base of the bracket to one side and screw it onto the chosen surface then put the bracket back onto the base.

On range models  C8 (mod. 0027) CHH - C1, loosen the nut to separate the bracket from the base and screw it onto the chosen surface then put the bracket back onto the base.

FLUSH MOUNT COMPASSES: C 12plus -  C15/150 -  C12/110 – CHE (0073–0074)

The surface should be horizontal and stable. Flush mount compasses are supplied with a gasket and template for correct installation.

To install the compass, place the template on the chosen surface, mark the attaching holes and the hole for mounting the compass and follow the instructions given on the template.
It is important to use non-magnetic A4 stainless steel screws only.

BULKHEAD MOUNT COMPASSES:  C 10 - C 9

The surface must be vertical and stable. Bulkhead mount compasses are supplied with a gasket and template for correct installation.

To install the compass, place the template on the chosen surface, mark the attaching holes and the hole for mounting the compass and follow the instructions given on the template.
It is important to use non-magnetic A4 stainless steel screws only.

BOXED COMPASSES:   C4 - CSB

To read the compass, isolate it from any magnetic influence.
The auxiliary light works with batteries.

DEVIATION

Deviation is a positive or negative error in degrees on the compass heading due to magnetic influences.
If deviation exists, it will be necessary to draw a deviation curve. This curve must be controlled and checked every year or whenever newly installed equipment or fittings influence the compass reading.

COMPENSATION

Some compasses can be supplied with an optional compensation device.
This device allows deviation errors between 0º and 25º to be corrected.

If the compass in its current location has a deviation exceeding 20º, we recommend moving the compass or asking an authorised technician to perform a deviation compensation.

AUTONAUTIC INSTRUMENTAL can provide contact information for the authorised technician in your area.

LIGHTING

Most of AUTONAUTIC INSTRUMENTAL compasses are supplied with compatible 12-24 V, long-lasting lighting.

MAINTENANCE

Clean the compass with soap and water only.
NEVER USE ANY KIND OF SOLVENT OR ABRASIVE.
To ensure continued and correct operation of the compass, a factory check every 5 years is recommended.
Send the compass direct to AUTONAUTIC INSTRUMENTAL or to the establishment where it was purchased.

TROUBLESHOOTING

AUTONAUTIC compasses are removable and all parts can be repaired. In the event of any problem, contact us or send the compass to AUTONAUTIC INSTRUMENTAL.

IF A BUBBLE APPEARS, DO NOT FILL THE COMPASS WITH ANY KIND OF LIQUID. THIS COULD RUIN THE COMPASS.

GUARANTEE CONDITIONS

This device is guaranteed against manufacturing defects for 5 years from the date of purchase. This guarantee covers the free replacement of defective parts as well as necessary labour to achieve adequate operation of the device.
